CVCs - Centers for Vulnerability Control

The goal of the CVCs is to provide a location throughout the academic year where residents can take their computers to receive a number of services that will help them take care of computer security issues.

For instance, issues that might prevent residents from connecting to the network or from getting reconnected to the network, e.g. after getting infected with a worm or virus.

Year Round!

During move-in week, the Residence Halls Computing Program (ResComp) delivered enhanced support services to residents of University Housing by providing Inoculation Stations. Continuing that idea, ResComp brings you the Centers for Vulnerability Control.

The standard suite of ResComp support services, including the ResComp Networking Guide and the ResComp Help Desk will continue to be offered as well.

How it works

Note: As a precautionary measure, we strongly encourage all residents to back up their personal files, whenever possible, PRIOR to bringing a system in for repair. We take all appropriate precautions, but the possibility exists that some data could inadvertently be lost during the course of some repairs. Please protect your personal files!

This service is provided only for residents of University Housing, Northwood Apartments, and the Lawyers Club and operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hardware Repair

It is not always possible to diagnose the source of a problem at first glance. If we discover that your computer problems are hardware-related, we'll stop work and notify you.

The ITCS Computer Showcase, located on the basement floor of the Michigan Union (Central Location) and the main concourse of Pierpont Commons (North Campus Location), is our recommended Apple repair facility. The ITCS Computer Showcase's services are available to all U-M departments, students, and employees. Qualified technicians perform all repair services. Warranty work requires a dated sales receipt for verification. You can reach them by phone at 647-2537 or send e-mail to computer.showcase@umich.edu.
